Shanghai-based online game company The9 (NCTY) had recorded 100,000 peak concurrent users (PCU) of its licensed turn-based 3D strategic role playing game Atlantica by about 9 p.m. on June 10. Nearly 500,000 gameplayers from 3D MMORPG World of Warcraft (WoW), which The9 operated until June 7, joined the June 10 testing.
 
On the first day of open beta, The9 recorded more than 300 gamers waiting to enter Atlantica's 32 prepared server groups in nine server farms. The company opened 12 more server groups on the first day of testing.
 
Nearly 1 million WoW gamers had applied to activate an Atlantica game card valued at RMB 30 by 10 a.m. on June 11, and The9 estimates that the remaining 500,000 game card holders may join Atlantica this week.
 
The9 announced June 8 that it plans to spend a total of RMB 200 million to offer its existing gamers prepaid cards worth RMB 30 each by June 20, and players who reach level 50 in Atlantica by July 14 can acquire another RMB 30 prepaid card. The9's license for World of Warcraft expired at 12 a.m. on June 7, and NetEase (NTES) is expected to begin opening server groups for the game in late June.
